12 – Rav Ovadia Yosef : We Must Pray for the Destruction of Iran

With the approach of Rosh Hashana, Rav Ovadia Yosef said on Saturday night that when we eat the traditional holiday symbolic foods, whose names or shapes have a symbolic connection to our supplications to Hashem, especially when we make the blessing over the dates, t’marim, and pray that our enemies be obliterated, we should focus specifically on Iran, the wicked nation which is threatening the State of Israel. “May the good Lord obliterate them, destroy them…”

Tractate Kritut in the Babylonian Talmud teaches that we should eat on Rosh Hashanah, among other fruits, a date – “tamar” – which contains the syllable “tam” or ended, and after eating a portion of it we should say, “May it be Your will, our God and the God of our fathers, that all our enemies and haters and all who plots against us be terminated.”

Also, when we eat a leek (“kreti”) we should appeal to God that our enemies and haters along with anyone who plots against us be destroyed, the Rav clarified that we should focus on the Hizbullah and Iran.

“May God destroy them and wipe them off the face of the earth,” said the Rav and quoted many sources in Psalms referring to the Almighty’s salvation in the face of enemy threats.

“They go by chariot and on horseback and we will go in the name of Our God. They bowed and fell, and we got up and persevered.”

During discussions throughout the previous week, Rav Ovadia referred to the Iranian threat, saying, “There are evil people, the Iranians, waiting to destroy us . . . .we must pour out our hearts in prayer to the Holy One, blessed be His Name. . . .We are in danger, we are all in danger. . . .We have no one to rely upon, except our Father in Heaven. We must pray from the heart with deep concentration.”

The Haredi website Kikar HaShabbat last week reported that General (Res.) Yaakov Amidror, Chief Advisor for National Security, came to Rav Ovadia’s house and briefed him with information of Iran’s nuclear plan.

Romney Doubts the Wisdom of Establishing a Palestinian State

In a candid video at a fundraiser earlier this year, Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney doubts the logic of establishing a Palestinian state. By: Daniel Tauber

September 18th, 2012

A recently released hidden video of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaking at a fundraiser in May (see video below).

A recently released hidden video of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaking at a fundraiser in May (see video below).

A candid video of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney doubting the logic of establishing a Palestinian state was released by the Leftist website,Mother Jones, earlier today.

The video was taken at a fundraiser for the Romney campaign on May 17th of this year.

In the video Romney says that he is “torn by two perspectives” with regard to Israeli-Palestinian peace. According to the first, which is the one he “has long held”, “the Palestinians have no interest whatsoever in establishing peace, and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish.”

Romney elaborated, outlining the problems Israel would have ensuring that the Palestinian state does not become militarized or used by Iran as a base to attack Israel.

The Israelis are going to patrol the border between Jordan, Syria, and this new Palestinian nation? Well, the Palestinians would say, “Uh, no way! We’re an independent country. You can’t guard our border with other Arab nations.”

And now how about the airport? How about flying into this Palestinian nation? Are we going to allow military aircraft to come in and weaponry to come in? And if not, who’s going to keep it from coming in? Well, the Israelis. Well, the Palestinians are going to say, “We’re not an independent nation if Israel is able to come in and tell us what can land in our airport.”

The other perspective Romney mentioned is that of an unnamed former secretary of state who Romney said called him and told him that after the next Palestinian Authority elections there will be prospects for peace. However,

Romney said he “did not delve into” that view. Romney – according to the first perspective at least – appears more opposed to Palestinian statehood than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who said Israel should accept a “demilitarized” Palestinian state, as Romney argues that it would be impossible to ensure that the state remained demiliterized.

Here’s the text of the portion of Romney’s speech released byMother Jones (the video is below):

I’m torn by two perspectives in this regard. One is the one which I’ve had for some time, which is that the Palestinians have no interest whatsoever in establishing peace, and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish.

Now why do I say that? Some might say, well let’s let the Palestinians have the West Bank, and have security, and set up a separate nation for the Palestinians. And then comes a couple of thorny questions.

And I don’t have a map right here to look at the geography, but the border between Israel and the West Bank is obviously right there, right next to Tel Aviv, which is the financial capital, the industrial capital of Israel, the center of Israel. It’s—what the border be? Maybe seven miles from Tel Aviv to what would be the West Bank …

The other side of the West Bank, the other side of what would be this new Palestinian state would either be Syria at one point, or Jordan. And of course, the Iranians would want to do through the West Bank exactly what they did through Lebanon, what they did near Gaza.

Which is that the Iranians would want to bring missiles and armament into the West Bank and potentially threaten Israel. So Israel of course would have to say, “That can’t happen. We’ve got to keep the Iranians from bringing weaponry into the West Bank.” Well, that means that—who? The Israelis are going to patrol the border between Jordan, Syria, and this new Palestinian nation? Well, the Palestinians would say, “Uh, no way! We’re an independent country. You can’t guard our border with other Arab nations.”

And now how about the airport? How about flying into this Palestinian nation? Are we going to allow military aircraft to come in and weaponry to come in? And if not, who’s going to keep it from coming in? Well, the Israelis. Well, the Palestinians are going to say, “We’re not an independent nation if Israel is able to come in and tell us what can land in our airport.”

These are problems—these are very hard to solve, all right? And I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel, and these thorny issues, and I say, “There’s just no way.”

And so what you do is you say, “You move things along the best way you can.” You hope for some degree of stability, but you recognize that this is going to remain an unsolved problem. We live with that in China and Taiwan. All right, we have a potentially volatile situation but we sort of live with it, and we kick the ball down the field and hope that ultimately, somehow, something will happen and resolve it. We don’t go to war to try and resolve it imminently.

On the other hand, I got a call from a former secretary of state. I won’t mention which one it was, but this individual said to me, you know, I think there’s a prospect for a settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis after the Palestinian elections. I said, “Really?” And, you know, his answer was, “Yes, I think there’s some prospect.” And I didn’t delve into it.

More Evidence Neocon Network Behind “Innocence of Muslims” Video

Anti-Amerikan Protests Exposed

By Brother Nathanael Kapner Copyright 2012

The spark that lit the fires of Islamic rage across the Middle East…so we’re being told…is the idiotic movie, “The Innocence of Muslims.”

But the fires had already been ignited by the boots of Amerikan Imperialism wreaking havoc and destruction across the Islamic world.

How is it that the Zionist programme that targets Israel’s enemies has become Amerika’s own foreign policy?

And how is that warmongering Jews like Wolfowitz, Perle, Kristol, Lieberman, Levin, (who brought us the NDAA), Kagan, and Eliot Cohen – Romney’s foreign policy adviser – issue marching orders to Generals and Commanders in Chief?

It was Lieberman himself who demanded a ‘humanitarian’ no-fly zone over Libya which brought nothing but ruin and chaos to that hapless country:

[Clip: “Senator Lieberman, first to you, is there anything that you believe could change the behavior of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi?” “Honestly, I think the world has to do more. I’d begin with the imposition of a no-fly zone…”]

It was Zionist shill, Hillary Clinton, whose State Department is loaded with Jews, who mocked the murdered Muammar Gadhafi with shameful idiotic laughter when saying, “We came, We saw, He died: [Clip: “We came, we saw, he died! Ha ha! Ha ha!”]

It was Lieberman again who praised the use of Predator Drones in aiding his beloved ‘freedom fighters’ in decimating Libya and unwittingly admitted that Amerika owns NATO, the two perpetrators inflicting ‘humanitarian’ carnage:

[Clip: “And let me first talk about the Predator Drones, do you have any reservations at all about the use of these weapons?” “I do not. I mean, we’re in the fight and the political goal is to get Gaddafi out and to help the freedom fighters.” “And are we still in it with one foot as both Senator McCain and Senator Graham believe?” “Well, yeah, it’s probably a foot and a half.

When the President turned over leadership to NATO in one sense that was exactly the right thing to do because we can’t fight every good fight in the world alone.

We need our allies and appreciate that they have come in. But we’re the heart of NATO and it’s not exactly as if we took the ball and gave it to NATO, we’re still NATO.”] Bombs, Apache Helicopters, Jet Fighters, deadly Drones – killing Muslim civilians attending weddings, funerals, children playing – wreaking destruction in Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, and now Yemen.

And the Jewish-owned press and its shill in the White House wants to blame some idiotic Clip on YouTube for all the Islamic outrage and the murder of US Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens. Let’s get real, people. Amerika’s foreign policy is skewed and screwed onto the Zionist war programme of International Jewry.

But blowback time is now here. You see, Stevens reportedly armed those wonderful ‘freedom fighters’ in Libya…but at day’s end terrorists don’t take to Zionist shills. These are the facts my friends, plain and simple.

And Hillary just can’t seem to grasp why those wonderful ‘freedom fighters’ have become such thankless ingrates.

[Clip: “Today many Americans are asking, indeed asked myself, how could this happen? How could this happen in a country we helped liberate in a city we helped save from destruction.”] Well, look you silly woman… Your “liberation” of a once stable society under Gadhafi has brought on thousands of roving armed-gangs, a government that can’t stop them, and an infrastructure left in utter ruin.

And the Zionist-owned puppet in the White House is arming the ‘rebels’ in Syria yet sending Marines to Libya to hunt down the same ones he’s arming in Syria. When, my friends, will this insanity end ? I now call on the US military to lead Amerika in a National Day of Repentance.

And may the Generals who’ve allowed warmongering Jews to give them their marching orders be the first to get down on their knees and repent.

The Jew-owned Media got Obama hanging by a string. Yeah, sure. That stupid Clip on YouTube is the “cause of Islamic rage.” Give me a big break.

JEWmerika has destroyed Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. And JEWmerika puts the blame on a low budget film! Like I said in the Vid above —

reaches far beyond the borders of Israel permeating the very centers of global jurisdictions.

These centers include not only the political machinery of nation-states but also the military, financial, economic, and propaganda realms of global infrastructures.

For what was once known in both geographic and cultural terms as “Christendom” has been supplanted by the global beast of Zionism.

And what began in the late 1800s as a movement to establish a homeland for the Jews in Palestine has created instead with the modern state of Israel a locus of power in a body politic that harnesses the massive power of International Jewry.

This is a frightening development for the entire non-Jewish world fraught with omens of provocations which the entire world witnesses moment by moment.

Manifestly, Israel does not exist as some tiny insignificant state in the Middle East but as an international menace with tentacles reaching into every part of the globe.

Those nations that are not part of Israel’s international hydra: Iran — Iraq — Afghanistan — Libya — Syria, have either been destroyed by Jewry’s Amerikan proxy or targeted for ruin.

For this pernicious force, “International Jewry,” which up until the founding of Israel in 1948, only operated as a dispersed and diffused entity. But now, with a state apparatus at its command, “International Jewry” — (in essence, ananti-Christ organism) — fully operates as a globally-recognized body politic with a vast arsenal of nuclear weapons. And that’s scary.

Do most Christians grasp the force of this threat? Sadly, no.

For due to Jewry’s dominance of the Main Stream Media throughout the Western World, Gentiles have been brainwashed to shun any critical remarks that contain the word “Jew” or even the word “Israel” lest they be labeled (horror of horrors!) an “anti-Semite.”

signed the US-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act on July 27, 2012, not only did he bind Amerika to a “Jewish State” but granted to Israel an “enhanced presence at NATO headquarters and military exercises.”

This conferred additional global military power to Israel’s already current partnership with both Nato and US armed forces.

And it is International Jewish Finance that ultimately controls both Amerika’s military and its Nato subsidiary.

In the economic realm, Israel is the world’s leader in the manufacture of Drones and is the nucleus behind global Corporations such as Intel, Apple, Microsoft, and Cisco, providing essential hardware and software for production and operation.

is squarely in the hands of Jewish global banking dynasties such as

theRothschilds ;

the Warburgs ;

the Weinbergs (this is the family dynasty behind Goldman Sachs);

the Moccatas & Goldsmids (global gold trading);

and theOppenheimers .

Amerika’s own Federal Reserve Bank, (a private consortium), has as its major shareholder RIGHT CLICK TO SAVE , NM Rothschild and Sons.

With regard to globalization, the components of world trade and its institutions have a distinct Jewish imprint.

The World Bank has as one of its chief economists, Stanley Fischer , Governor of the Bank of Israel and first Director of the International Monetary Fund where Israel enjoys a domineering role.

And with all the choke points of globalization firmly in Jewish hands controlling Currency Exchange Rates (Forex), SWIFT, (transfer of payments), and Letters of Credit, the state of Israel is guaranteed the enduring ability to wreak continual chaos and destruction not only in the Middle East but far beyond its own borderless borders.

controlling the minds of millions finds Jewry dominating Main Stream Media venues throughout the Western World.

Israel and Jewry, of course, are presented as the good guys and autonomous Muslim nations as the bad guys.

With this incessant anti-Muslim propaganda shoved down our throats in myriads of ways and means day after day, wars for the Jews across the map will never cease.

This ready-made field of enmity (witness the latest anti-Muslim agitprop, the “Innocence of Muslims” film splashed on headlines ad infinitumby the Jewish-owned press) prevents diplomacy and cooperation from being undertaken.

AND ONCE AGAIN, Jewish-puppet Obama is“sending in the Marines.”

to the forced colonization of Palestine by European and Russian Jews in the 1920s-1930s, the three religious groups comprising the native population of the area: Jews, Muslims, and Christians, got along just fine.

Those days are over thanks to the anti-Christ programme of the Zionist-Jewish state and its powerful agents of the Jewish Lobby corrupting the democratic process in Amerika and Europe.

Thus, with Israel’s (that is, International Jewry’s) global infrastructure, is it any surprise that Bibi Netanyahu continually pokes his finger into the eyes of terror-stricken Obama who fears losing the “Jewish vote” which decides who will win and who will die?

But the Jewish-owned press flashes Amerika’s real commander-in-chief, Netanyahu, before our faces day after day. The man gets more airtime than Obama or Romney could ever hope to get.

And would it be any surprise if global opinion voices that forbidden assertion, “Jews are our misfortune,” in a coextensive way: “Israel is the world’s misfortune!”

17 – “They shot my father in the head”: interview with survivor of Sabra and Shatila massacre

Moe Ali Nayel

The Electronic Intifada

Sabra-Shatila camp

19 September 2012

A Palestinian woman carries a portrait of her relatives who were killed during the Sabra and Shatila massacre during a march to mark the 30th anniversary of the massacre in Beirut, 18 September 2012.

(Sharif Karim / Reuters )

On Sunday, the 30th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre was commemorated by people of different nationalities around the world. In Lebanon the commemoration was only observed by Palestinians living in refugee camps; Lebanese people were not concerned.

The massacre carried out by the Phalange , a Christian Maronite militia acting in full cooperation with Israel, was among the most atrocious episodes of recent history. But it is still absent from our collective Lebanese memory.

The Sabra and Shatila massacre is another taboo in Lebanon that needs to be addressed publicly and soberly; maybe admitting the wrongdoing could prevent us from further subjugating the Palestinian refugees who are residing here temporarily until they return to their occupied homeland.

The perpetrators of the massacre are still alive and could be found inside and outside Lebanon; so too are some of the witnesses who survived the massacre, and lost their loved ones. They are still awaiting justice.

On 16 September 1982, Jameela Khalifeh was a teenage girl. The three long days of slaughter still haunts her memories.

This week, Khalifeh welcomed us with a smile to her dim apartment on the busy Sabra strip. Outside, there was bustling life: people stopping and shopping at vegetable stalls and bootleg DVD stores.

“I was 16 and had just got engaged,” Kahlifeh said. “I was living at my parents’ home with three sisters and my brother.”

“We won’t forget”

Holding out a photo, she added: “This is my father Mohammad Khalifeh, this picture was taken after they shot him in the head and dumped his body on the side of the street.” On the back of the picture, there is a certificate issued by the Palestine Liberation Organization .

It contains Mohammad’s name and the words “So we won’t forget.”

“On 16 September, during the invasion, Israeli soldiers descended onto the camp from the Sports City stadium located on a hilltop overlooking the camp. We knew that the Israelis were stationed in the stadium and they [the Israelis] knew that the fedayeen [PLO fighters] had evacuated the camp, therefore we assured each other they wouldn’t kill us unarmed families.

“Next to the Israeli soldiers there were the Phalange militants who spoke in a Lebanese dialect; each militant dressed in a cowboy hat and a white armband with a green cedar on it [the logo of the Phalangists’ political party]. I remember the Israelis were speaking broken Arabic to the Lebanese militants but mostly they spoke in Hebrew. My mother understood Hebrew from the time she used to live in Palestine before 1948.

“While we were fleeing, we got stopped by a Phalange militant who pointed his rifle to my mother’s belly, but the Israeli soldier told the Lebanese militant, ‘Don’t kill the Madam and the babies; we are here to kill men only.’ We came out to the streets; my father was with us in the shelter beneath the building, and the Israelis — with the Phalangists — started to call us through microphones urging us to come out from the shelters, announcing: ‘If you surrender you will be safe.’

“Overwhelming stench”

“We came out from the shelter to the street; I remember the stench was overwhelming, and I was waving a white piece of cloth. My father finally decided to come out with us from the shelter. I made sure to stay by his side; I was truly attached to my father, holding his hand tight.

“The moment we emerged we were taken by Israeli soldiers and Lebanese militants. At this point my father became nervous. He looked at me and whispered, ‘I’m going home.’ The moment we joined families from the camp led by the militants, my father panicked, let go of my hand and ran home. When he got home he found militants inside the building, searching it, so he immediately ran back to us.

“While he was running towards us: they shot him in the head. My mother saw him getting shot, I didn’t.

“While we were being led at gunpoint, we found a small alley that led to the camp so we split off from the marching, cattled crowds and made it back to the main mosque in the camp. The mosque was full of people from Shatila .

On arrival, we told them that they [the Phalange] are killing and slaughtering families but the elders of the camp said we were lying; that there was nothing, that we should calm down. Upon our insistence the elders decided to go see what was going on. The elder men never came back to the mosque. After waiting in the mosque for few hours with no news about the elders we and other families went to Gaza hospital at the the entrance to Sabra.

“We used to live in the street of Hay al-Gharbi next to the Doukhi grocery store. In our neighborhood only my family and our neighbor survived the killing, the rest were all killed. I remember seven or eight corpses on top of each other, in the street below our building; we had to step over them.

“The Israelis and Phalangists led us in a march, to finish us, to kill us like they did to the others. Luckily, we managed to escape through the alley. The Israelis were dressed in full military uniform with iron helmets. The Lebanese militants were dressed in cowboy hats, blue jeans and daggers hanging from their belts. Some among them wore black ski masks. All carried Kalashnikovs.

Putting Sharon in the dock

“A few years ago 300 of us hired the lawyer Shibli Mallat to sue Ariel Sharon [Israel’s defense minister in 1982, and later, prime minister] for the massacre and we wanted to take him to a tribunal in Belgium. We saw pictures of Sharon standing at the sports stadium next to Israeli tanks overlooking the camp, and we know he was watching the massacre and the killing of Palestinians. I still want Sharon to be put on trial even if he, ironically, has been in a coma for years and clinically dead.

“Thirty years after the massacre, take a look at how we live. We are seven people staying in two small rooms. Our life has been deteriorating for the last 30 years; we still can’t work and can’t move outside the camp to a decent place. We buy drinking and washing water on a daily basis. We buy electricity from a generator; the Lebanese government only gives us two hours of power a day. My two sons work at an aluminum factory. Because they are Palestinian they get paid less than their coworkers. And my 23-year-old daughter works at a café.

“My daughter went to get a loan from a bank like her coworkers did but when she got to the bank and showed her papers they told her, ‘Sorry, you can’t get a loan because you are Palestinian.’ Being a Palestinian in Lebanon is a daily, ongoing struggle for survival. That’s why each time a woman gives birth we make sure the newborn is brought up to believe in the right of return to Palestine and we emphasize that we are only guests here.

“We want to return to Palestine but until then I want to leave this country and go anywhere we’ll be treated as human beings. We never gave up, Palestine is ours, and we are going to return, but we are tired of not being able to live an honorable, decent life.

“We are from Jaffa . My mother never stops talking about the time she lived in Jaffa, and the way Israelis started coming as refugees, at first sheltering in houses, then starting to push Palestinians out of their houses.”

Atrocity ignored

On 16 September this year, Pope Benedict XVI visited Beirut, where he urged the Lebanese — both Christians and Muslims — to coexist in peace. The pope preached on various issues concerning the region but failed to mention the Sabra and Shatila massacre and the plight of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Many were furious with his omission of any reference to the massacre in his public address on Beirut’s waterfront. As he was speaking on the anniversary of the massacre, the omission was all the more hurtful.

The Sabra and Shatila massacre is one of many atrocities that occurred during the long years of the Lebanese civil war. Ironically, political leaders, who were then warlords, were sitting on the frontline on Sunday during the Pope’s sermon; among those leaders were members of the Phalangist party, who are believed to be responsible for the massacre in Sabra and Shatila.

There will come a day when Lebanon will break the taboo of the Sabra and Shatila massacre and justice will be served to the families of the thousands killed 30 years ago. But until that day comes, Palestinian refugees will still be marginalized, living in inhumane conditions inside overcrowded camps.

The Massacre at Sabra and Shatila, Thirty Years Later

By SONJA KARKAR | CounterPunch | September 16, 2012

It happened thirty years ago – 16 September 1982. A massacre so awful that people who know about it cannot forget it. The photos are gruesome reminders – charred, decapitated, indecently violated corpses, the smell of rotting flesh, still as foul to those who remember it as when they were recoiling from it all those years ago. For the victims and the handful of survivors, it was a 36-hour holocaust without mercy. It was deliberate, it was planned and it was overseen. But to this day, the killers have gone unpunished.

Sabra and Shatila – two Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon – were the theatres for this staged slaughter. The former is no longer there and the other is a ghostly and ghastly reminder of man’s inhumanity to men, women and children – more specifically, Israel’s inhumanity, the inhumanity of the people who did Israel’s bidding and the world’s inhumanity for pretending it was of no consequence. There were international witnesses – doctors, nurses, journalists – who saw the macabre scenes and have tried to tell the world in vain ever since.

Each act was barbarous enough on its own to warrant fear and loathing. It was human savagery at its worst and Dr Ang Swee Chai was an eye witness as she worked with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society on the dying and the wounded amongst the dead. What she saw was so unimaginable that the atrocities committed need to be separated from each other to even begin comprehending the viciousness of the crimes.

[1]People Tortured. Blackened bodies smelling of roasted flesh from the power shocks that had convulsed their bodies before their hearts gave out – the electric wires still tied around their lifeless limbs

People with gouged out eye sockets. Faces unrecognizable with the gaping holes that had plunged them into darkness before their lives were thankfully ended.

Women raped. Not once – but two, three, four times – horribly violated, their legs shamelessly ripped apart with not even the cover of clothing to preserve their dignity at the moment of death.

Children dynamited alive. So many body parts ripped from their tiny torsos, so hard to know to whom they belonged – just mounds of bloodied limbs amongst the tousled heads of children in pools of blood.

Families executed. Blood, blood and more blood sprayed on the walls of homes where whole families had been axed to death in a frenzy or lined up for a more orderly execution.

There were also journalists who were there in the aftermath and who had equally gruesome stories to tell, none of which made the sort of screaming front page headlines that should have caused lawmakers to demand immediate answers. What they saw led them to write shell-shocked accounts that have vanished now into the archives, but are no less disturbing now. These accounts too need to be individually absorbed, lest they be lumped together as just the collective dead rather than the systematic torture and killing of individual, innocent human beings.

Women gunned down while cooking in their kitchens.

[2] The headless body of a baby in diapers lying next to two dead women.

[3] An infant, its tiny legs streaked with blood, shot in the back by a single bullet.

[4] Slaughtered babies, their bodies blackened as they decomposed, tossed into rubbish heaps together with Israeli army equipment and empty bottles of whiskey.

[5] An old man castrated, with flies thick upon his torn intestines.

[6] Children with their throats slashed.

[7] Mounds of rotting corpses bloated in the heat – young boys all shot at point-blank range.

[8] And most numbing of all are the recollections of the survivors whose experiences were so shockingly traumatic that to recall them must have been painful beyond all imaginings.

One survivor, Nohad Srour, 35 said: “I was carrying my one year-old baby sister and she was yelling “Mama! Mama!” then suddenly nothing. I looked at her and her brain had fallen out of her head and down my arm.

I looked at the man who shot us.

I’ll never forget his face.

Then I felt two bullets pierce my shoulder and finger.

I fell. I didn’t lose consciousness, but I pretended to be dead.”

[9] The statistics of those killed vary, but even according to the Israeli military, the official count was 700 people killed while Israeli journalist, Amnon Kapeliouk put the figure at 3,500.

[10] The Palestinian Red Crescent Society put the number killed at over 2,000.

[11] Regardless of the numbers, they would not and could not mitigate what are clear crimes against humanity. Fifteen years later, Robert Fisk, the journalist who had been one of the first on the scene, said: “Had Palestinians massacred 2,000 Israelis 15 years ago, would anyone doubt that the world’s press and television would be remembering so terrible a deed this morning? Yet this week, not a single newspaper in the United States – or Britain for that matter – has even mentioned the anniversary of Sabra and Shatila.”

[12] Thirty years later it is no different. The political developments What happened must be set against the background of a Lebanon that had been invaded by the Israeli army only months earlier, supposedly in ‘retaliation’ for the attempted assassination of the Israeli Ambassador in London on 4 June 1982.

Israel attributed the attempt to Arafat’s Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) then resident in Beirut.

In reality, it was a rival militant group headed by Abu Nidal. Israel wanted to oust the PLO from Lebanon altogether and on 6 June 1982, Israel began its devastating assault on the Lebanese and Palestinian civilian population in the southern part of Lebanon. Lebanese government casualty figures numbered the dead at around 19,000 with some 30,000 wounded, but these numbers are hardly accurate because of the mass graves and other bodies lost in the rubble.

[13] By 1 September, a cease-fire had been mediated by United States envoy Philip Habib, and Arafat and his men surrendered their weapons and were evacuated from Beirut with guarantees by the US that the civilians left behind in the camps would be protected by a multinational peacekeeping force.

That guarantee was not kept and the vacuum then created, paved the way for the atrocities that followed. As soon as the peacekeeping force was withdrawn, the then Israeli Defence Minister Ariel Sharon moved to root out some “2,000 terrorists” he claimed were still hiding in the refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila.

After totally surrounding the refugee camps with tanks and soldiers, Sharon ordered the shelling of the camps and the bombardment continued throughout the afternoon and into the evening of 15 September leaving the “mopping-up” of the camps to the Lebanese right-wing Christian militia, known as the Phalangists. The next day, the Phalangists – armed and trained by the Israeli army – entered the camps and proceeded to massacre the unarmed civilians while Israel’s General Yaron and his men watched the entire operations.

More grotesquely, the Israeli army ensured there was no lull in the 36 hours of killings and illuminated the area with flares at night and tightened their cordon around the camps to make sure that no civilian could escape the terror that had been unleashed. Inquiries, charges and off scot-free Although Israel’s Kahan Commission of Inquiry did not find any Israeli directly responsible, it did find that Sharon bore “personal responsibility” for “not ordering appropriate measures for preventing or reducing the danger of massacre” before sending the Phalangists into the camps.

It, therefore, lamely recommended that the Israeli prime minister consider removing him from office.

[14] Sharon resigned but remained as Minister without portfolio and joined two parliamentary commissions on defence and Lebanese affairs.

There is no doubt, as Chomsky points out “that the inquiry was not intended for people who have a prejudice in favour of truth and honesty”, but it certainly gained support for Israel in the US Congress and among the public.

[15] It took an International Commission of Inquiry headed by Sean MacBride to find that Israel was “directly responsible” because the camps were under its jurisdiction as an occupying power.

[16] Yet, despite the UN describing the heinous operation as a “criminal massacre” and declaring it an act of genocide

[17], no one was prosecuted. It was not until 2001 that a law suit was filed in Belgium by the survivors of the massacre and relatives of the victims against Sharon alleging his personal responsibility. However, the court did not allow for “universal jurisdiction” – a principle which was intended to remove safe havens for war criminals and allow their prosecution across states.

The case was won on appeal and the trial allowed to proceed, but without Sharon who by then was prime minister of Israel and had immunity. US interference led to the Belgian Parliament gutting the universal jurisdiction law and by the time the International Criminal Court was established in The Hague the following year, the perpetrators of the Sabra and Shatila massacre could no longer be tried because its terms of reference did not allow it to hear cases of war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide pre-dating 1 July 2002. Neither Sharon nor those who carried out the massacres have ever been punished for their horrendous crimes.

The bigger picture The length of time since these acts were carried out should be no impediment to exposing the truth. More than 60 years after the Nazi atrocities against the Jews in Europe, the world still mourns and remembers and erects monuments and museums to that violent holocaust. How they are done, to whom they are done and to how many does not make the crimes any more or less heinous.

They can never be justified even on the strength of one state’s rationale that another people ought to be punished, or worse still, are simply inferior or worthless beings. It should lead all of us to question on whose judgment are such decisions made and how can we possibly justify such crimes at all? The atrocities committed in the camps of Sabra and Shatila should be put in the context of an ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.

The MacBride report found that these atrocities “were not inconsistent with wider Israeli intentions to destroy Palestinian political will and cultural identity.”

[17] Since Deir Yassin and the other massacres of 1948, those who survived have joined hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fleeing a litany of massacres committed in 1953, 1967, and the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, and the killing continues today.

The most recent being the 2008-2009 Gaza massacre – that 3 week merciless onslaught, a festering sore without relief as the people are further punished by an impossible siege that denies them their most basic rights.

Thus were the victims and survivors of the Sabra and Shatila massacre gathered up in the perpetual nakba of the slaughtered, the dispossessed, the displaced and the discarded – a pattern of ethnic cleansing perpetrated under the Zionist plan to finally and forever extinguish Palestinian society and its people.

This is why we must remember Sabra and Shatila, thirty years on. 18 – With Friends Like Israel, Who Needs Enemies?

“Once we squeeze all we can out of the United States, it can dry up and blow away.” — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 2002.

It is possibly the greatest of American political myths.

President Barack Obama has claimed that the United States enjoys a special bond with Israel unlike its relations with any other country. He has called the friendship “unshakeable”. His Republican rival, Mitt Romney, has gone further, arguing that there is not “an inch of difference between ourselves and our ally Israel”.

While such pronouncements form the basis of an apparent Washington consensus, the reality is that the cherished friendship is no more than a fairy tale.

Politicians may prefer to express undying love for Israel, and hand over billions of dollars annually in aid, but the US security establishment has — at least, in private — always regarded Israel as an unfaithful partner.

The distrust has been particularly hard to hide in relation to Iran. Israel has been putting relentless pressure on Washington, apparently in the hope of maneuvering it into supporting or joining an attack on Tehran to stop what Israel claims is an Iranian effort to build a nuclear bomb concealed beneath its civilian energy program.

While coverage has focused on the personal animosity between Obama and the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the truth is that US officials generally are deeply at odds with Israel on this issue.

The conflict burst into the open this month with reports that the Pentagon had scaled back next month’s joint military exercise, Austere Challenge, with the Israeli military that had been billed as the largest and most significant in the two countries’ history.

The goal of the exercise was to test the readiness of Israel’s missile-defence shield in case of Iranian reprisals — possibly the biggest fear holding Israel back from launching a go-it-alone attack. The Pentagon’s main leverage on Israel is its X-band radar, stationed in Israel but operated exclusively by a US crew, that would provide Israel with early warning of Iranian missiles.

A senior Israeli military official told Time magazine what message the Pentagon’s rethink had conveyed: “Basically what the Americans are saying is, ‘We don’t trust you’.”

The Lavon Affair (1954), the USS Liberty attack on American servicemen (1967), and numerous espionage incidents and acts of Israeli betrayal over the years, have not helped to inspire American trust in Israel (LD)

But discord between the two “unshakeable allies” is not limited to Iran. Antipathy has been the norm for decades. Over the summer, current and former CIA officials admitted that the US security establishment has always regarded Israel as its number one counter-intelligence threat in the Middle East.

The most infamous spy working on Israel’s behalf was Jonathan Pollard, a naval intelligence officer who passed thousands of classified documents to Israel in the 1980s. Israel’s repeated requests for his release have been a running sore with the Pentagon, not least because defence officials regard promises that Israel would never again operate spies on US soil as insincere.

Jonathan Pollard , one in a long line of Jewish American spies. (See here ). The total number of Jewish spies convicted or expelled from the US exceeds the number of spies from all other ethnic groups. As Jews make up only 2% of the American population and blacks 14%, there ought to be seven times as many black spies. In fact, there are none. (LD)

At least two more spies have been identified in the past few years. In 2008 a former US army engineer, Ben-Ami Kadish, admitted that he had allowed Israeli agents to photograph secret documents about US fighter jets and nuclear weapons in the 1980s. And in 2006 Lawrence Franklin, a US defence official, was convicted of passing classified documents to Israel concerning Iran.

In fact, such betrayals were assumed by Washington from the start of the relationship. In Israel’s early years, a US base in Cyprus monitored Israeli activities; today, Israeli communications are intercepted by a team of Hebrew linguists stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland.

Documents released this month by the Israeli air force archives also reveal that Israel eventually identified mysterious high-altitude planes that overflew its territory throughout the 1950s as American U-2 espionage planes.

In a sign of continuing US caution, Israel has not been included in the coterie of countries with which Washington shares sensitive intelligence. The members of the “Five Eyes” group, consisting of the US, Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, have promised not to spy on each other — a condition Israel would have regularly flouted were it a member.

America should think twice about revealing its innermost secrets to these four countries. This could well be its Achilles’ heel. None of these Zionized nations can be trusted not to hand to hand over America’s secrets to Israel. The most untrustworthy of these four countries is undoubtedly Canada, followed by Britain and Australia in second place, with New Zealand the least untrustworthy of the four. If America ever wished to feed Israel with false information, one way it it could do this would be to pass on the false “secret” information to Canada — a country so Zionized that it has virtually become an Israeli colony. (LD)

Indeed, Israel has even stolen the identities of nationals from these countries to assist in Mossad operations. Most notoriously, Israel forged passports to smuggle Israeli agents into Dubai in 2010 to assassinate Hamas leader Mahmoud Al Mabhouh.

Israel is far from a trusted ally in the US “war on terror”. A former intelligence official told the Associated Press in July that Israel ranked lower than Libya in a list of countries helping to fight terrorism compiled by the Bush administration after September 11.

So why all the talk of a special bond if the relationship is characterised by such deep mistrust?

Part of the answer lies in the formidably intimidating tactics of the pro-Israel lobby in Washington. Thomas Friedman, the New York Timescolumnist, spoke for a growing number of observers last year when he wrote that the US Congress was effectively “bought and paid for” by Israel’s lobbyists.

That power was all too evident last week when the Democratic national convention adopted an amended policy designating Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, in opposition to both international law and the vocal wishes of delegates.

But there is another, less spoken-of reason. Francis Perrin, the head of the French Atomic Agency in the 1950s and 1960s, when France was helping Israel develop a nuclear weapon against the wishes of the US, once observed that the Israeli bomb was really “aimed against the Americans”.

Not because Israel wanted to attack the US, but because it realised that — once it possessed the only nuclear arsenal in the Middle East — the US would rarely risk standing in its way, however much its policies ran counter to US interests.

For that reason, if no other, Israel is determined to stop any rival, including Iran, from getting a nuclear weapon that would end its monopoly.

It is not inconceivable that one day, in the not too distant future, America might itself be the object of a major nuclear attack by Israel, especially if relations should deteriorate further into outright hostility.

As if to emphasize the point of Israeli muscularity, Israeli military historian Martin van Creveld has more than once invoked the dreaded Samson option .”We possess several hundred atomic warheads,” he reminds us ominously, “and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our air force.”

If most European capitals have been targeted for attack by Israel, including London and Paris, why not Washington? (LD)
